More than 50 teams play pétanque (the French game of boules) in Rutland every Tuesday evening in the spring and summer. Most are based at our splendid local hostelries.

The league was established in 1993 with nine teams and has been growing ever since.

It now has 5 divisions of 10 teams each, 3 local divisions, Division 1 and a Premier Division. We also hold the Greene King Cup and the Turner Plate Competition, in which all teams play, which is played during the season.

Pétanque is a game which all can enjoy at any age and with any level of skill and the equipment is not expensive. Usually all that is required is a set of three matching boules which can be acquired from any good sports shop.

With the end of the season I thought a little something to remind you all of summer might be appreciated!

If you would like to enter a team in the league or would like to play and need the name of your local club, contact the league secretary, Pat Tyler e-mail patjtyler@btinternet.com

To find out more about the game, and for a copy of the rules, visit The British Pétanque Federation website on www.britishpetanque.org

To print the Fixture lists on one page I find the following does the trick :

Go to your Fixture Page

With the cursor on the body of the page

– Right Click and then click on “select all” in the drop down menu. This highlights the fixtures.

- Right Click again – then click on “print preview”

When preview is on screen

– change the box “AS LAID OUT ON SCREEN” to “ONLY SELECTED FRAME”

Ensure that all the fixtures appear on the one page and that at the bottom of the screen the number of pages show “ 1 of 1”

Click on the “PRINT” ICON (Top Left of your screen)
